The Birth of The Austin Shower Cradle

Imagination, style, comfort, quality.

Manufactured in Sunderland, England, every Austin Shower Cradle is manufactured with attention to detail that is unsurpassed, from the raw materials used, through to the way in which each and every customer is looked after.

Imagination, style, comfort and quality are the main ingredients that go into each and every shower cradle we manufacture.

We set about the task in 2012 and our goal was simply to produce a range of shower cradles that were extremely comfortable, extremely easy to use and extremely stylish.

The History of The Austin Shower Cradle

In 1826 Samuel Peter Austin set up his first Shipbuilding Yard in Sunderland, England, and in 1954 merged with William Pickersgill and Sons to create one of the most successful Shipbuilding Yards in Sunderland, Austin Pickersgill Ltd.

Sunderland, located in the North East region of England, was once hailed as the largest Shipbuilding town in the world with thousands of wood, iron and steel ships built on the River Wear.

After World War Two, Sunderland continued to lead the way. However, production increased worldwide and it became more difficult for British yards to compete.

Throughout the 1950s and 1960s more yards closed or merged. In 1977 the shipbuilding industry was nationalised and job losses followed, with Austin and Pickersgill being the last to close in 1989.

20 years later Lynch Healthcare was born, operating from the same site that was home to the once thriving Austin & Pickersgill Shipyard.
